Nails of the week

This weeks nails are very glittery and were perfect for christmas! I used a new polish I received in my December Birchbox. Its from the new Velvet Goth collection by the Models Own brand and is called Absinthe. Its a really nice glittery teal colour and has a really opaque coverage in 1 coat, I was very impressed with it. They retail for £5 which is average for a nail polish but I was very happy as obviously I got other things in my Birchbox so it was great value for money.
The December Birchbox and nail varnishes
 are available to buy here.

Christmas Tag

I have seen this tag on quite a few blogs recently and I really wanted to do it myself so here it is...

What's your favourite Christmas movie?
This is such an easy question, my favourite is Elf! I have seen it so many times but I still love it but I also really like The Polar Express and The Holiday.

What are your favourite Christmas colours?
I love the traditional red and green but this year I wrapped present with red and gold paper and then red and white ribbons and bows.

Do you like to stay in your PJ's or dress up for Christmas?
I usually stay in my Pjs until near dinner time and then I like to wear a chrsitmas jumper and comfy leggings.

Do you open your presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
I always open them christmas morning with my Mum, Dad and brother and then the rest of my family come round later.

Have you ever built a gingerbread house?
Yes, I built one with my university flatmates for the first time last year.

What do you like to do during your Christmas holidays?
Just chill out and do nothing much really apart from seeing friends and famliy seen as I'm not at home most of the year.

Any Christmas wishes?
I wish that next year I create more happy memories  and that I continue to be successful in my course at university.

Favourite Christmas meal or treat?
The best thing about christmas dinner for me is pigs in blankets! I love them and wish I could have them all year round.

I'm back to blogging! (plus nails of the week post)

I can't believe I haven't posted on my blog since October! I have been so busy with university especially because I am now in my second year and I have so much more work. I have been enjoying it but now I am so glad to back home with my family.

Today's post is going to be a nails of the week using 2 nail varnishes I got in my No7 beauty advent calendar. If you haven't heard of the No7 advent calendar it includes 25 products from the No7 range at Boots. It was £35 which I know sounds alot for an advent calendar but the contents is worth over £100! I have really been liking what is in it and it perfect for me who loves new beauty products.

I used the Sally Hansen Double Duty top and base coat and then I used the two No7 nail varnishes in the colours Highland Mist and Disco Ball. The ones that come in the calendar are the mini version but I like that because you never use a full nail varnish before it dries up so the mini ones are perfect as you don't waste any.

I used the pinky coloured one (highland mist) on every nail except the ring finger and thumb nail as I painted them with the silver glitter one (disco ball). I really like the No7 nail varnishes as they do last a while and the colours are always really nice.

Hope you like this post and expect to see a few more over the holidays now I have more free time.

My Little Shopping Spree

So maybe I lied a bit in the title of the post as I bought quite a bit, some of the things were essentials while others were just things I decided to treat myself to so here is everything I bought when I went shopping in Leeds a few weeks ago ...

The main reason I went to Leeds was because there was a vintage fair on with £15 per kilo which was really good. I love vintage as it means no one else will have the same thing and I like to be different. It was £3 to get in and if you didn't have kilo of clothes it was £5 per item which was also really good. The only thing I found was this long cardigan so it was £5 which is a bargain for something vintage and it will be perfect for Autumn/Winter.

These were the most exciting purchases of the day as I have always wanted to go to the Kiko Cosmetics store and one recently opened in Leeds Trinity Centre so I had to go. I bought a long lasting eye shadow stick in the shade 05 rosy brown, a smart lipstick in the shade 914 which is a deep purpley red and a lip liner to go with it in the shade 709 which was the closest to lipstick colour. Altogether I spent £13.30 which I think is really good and all the pricing in the store is very reasonable and I will definitely go back next time I'm there!

Have a look at all products on www.kikocosmetics.co.uk

Swatches of all products

These next purchases were from Boots:

Boots Own Cosmetic Oval Pads
Clean and Clear Deep Action Cream Wash
Bastiste Dry Shampoo
Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat
Nivea Sensitive 3 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water
Maybelline Colour Show Nail
Varnish in Burberry Kiss

My final purchase was this hat from Primark for £8. It took me ages to decide whether or not to buy it but in the end I got it because I love the colour and my friend said it suited me.

Fashion Bargains

Over the summer I volunteered in one of my local charity shops. I did it as I needed something to put on my CV and thought that it would be good to do as there is so much you can write about. I did two days a week and most of the time I enjoyed it. One of the great things about working in a charity shop is the discount you get. I love charity shop shopping anyway so it was great bonus. I never really understood why they give discount in a charity shop because obviously the money goes to charity and its not exactly expensive anyway but I wasn't complaining I got 20% off anything I bought.

The first two things I bought were a dress and a play suit. I got them for £3.99 each with my discount  which was really good because neither of them look like they had been worn before. They both have River Island labels in them and I got them for a bargains as I bet these were both around £20 when they were originally bought.

The top is from a different charity shop near where I live and I got this for £2! It was actually in the sale and had been priced before at about £4.50. It has a Marks and Spencers label in and also looks like it hasn't been worn. I really love the lace detail on the cap sleeves.
The jumper is from the charity shop I volunteered in and again I got it for £3.99 with my discount. It still had the tag on which obviously showed it hadn't been worn before. I can't remember what it said on the tag but its feels good quality and the knit is thick so it will be perfect for winter.

This bag I got from the same charity shop as the top above. It was only £4! I really love brown bags as they go with any outfit. The shape and size also caught my eye because I like quite big bags and I really love the embossed pattern on it. I looked inside and found that it has a Primark label. Although I have bought bags from Primark before and haven't lasted long for £4 it doesn't matter as its so cheap and the inside it looked like it hadn't been used as there was no marks on the lining so it was a bargain.

I was very happy with my little haul form charity shops over the summer and for £17.97 altogether I have saved so much!

What I got in My September Birchbox - Happy Days!

This month's Birchbox theme was 'Happy Days'. It celebrates capturing moments and making new ones and I think this is the best Birchbox I have received so far. One of the best bits is the box itself as not only is it some really nice colours both the bottom and top are also frames. The inside of the box is coloured and patterned and there is a space for a 6x4 photo so it creates a 3D frame. I love having photos up and these were perfect for my new uni room.

(How the box is supposed to be used this month)

The other products I got in my box this month were:
Agave Healing Oil
Benefit It's Potent  Eye Cream
Korres Citrus Shower Gel
ModelCo Power Lash Mascara
Beauty Blender and Blender Cleanser Solid
Urban Fruit - Mango
Birchbox Happy Days Photo Clip

I also got a card with some discounts from the Photobox website.

I am really enjoying my box this month and so far I would say my favourite thing would me the ModelCo Power Lash Mascara. It really lifts lashes and gives volume. I actually picked it as a few weeks before the box was delivered there was a chance to pick a ModelCo product, it was between that and two different colours of lip gloss. I also really like the Agave Healing Oil. It makes my hair feel really soft and so much better. Overall I am really impressed with what I got and like every month I really can't wait to see what I get in my next box!

Nails of the Week - Shellac

This weeks nails I actually didn't do myself I had them done professionally for a change. I love having somebody else do them for me as I am always painting nails for family and friends and no one ever does mine so I decided to treat myself to having shellac put on them. If you don't know shellac is a gel based polish set under UV light which lasts for around 2-3 weeks. I have had them done with shellac a few times for special occasions and holiday and I love it as it means you don't have to worry about painting your nails for a while. I paid £18 for mine but it depends where you go as some places I know charge around £25 - £30 which I think is ridiculous! So anyway here are the photos of my nails...

This is a CND shellac in a colour called Masquerade. I really love the colour, its a great colour for autumn and I really love how they shine!

(Also this is my 50th post can't believe I have done that many in about 3 months. I tried to do around 3 a week but as I am going back to university tomorrow this will go down when I start to get busy with work)

MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Review

If you are a student and you haven't heard of Save The Student you really need to go and like their Facebook page and look on the website because that is where I got my sample of  MAC's Prep + Prime Skin Base! They do so many beauty sample offers for students which is great when you are like me and want to try as many beauty products as possible and obviously things for free are always good.

I haven't really tried primers before so I was quite excited to see if it really did make make up last much longer. I read on the Mac website than it is ' An ultra-fluid lotion formulated with special - effect silicones that calms and soothes the skin, blots away excess oil and evens out skin redness. Also improves the lay down and application of foundation or powder'. The consistency of the product is like a normal face moisturiser and sinks into the skin really quick and makes the skin feel soft. I would say it does help when blending foundation or a CC or BB cream and it definitely makes make up last longer. Also I don't find that my skin gets as oily during the day too. The full sized product retails for £21 for 30ml and I will definitely think about purchasing this as I feel you don't need much and the amount would last quite a while.

My New Haircut

I haven't done a post about hair since I started this blog so this is just a quick post to show off my new haircut I had done yesterday and a bit about my hair over the last few years.

For quite a while I had short hair with either no fringe or a side fringe, I started out having a bob that was cut a bit shorter at the back and sloped longer at the front and I think I had that from about 11 to 15 years old . I then grew it a bit longer when I was 16, just about to my shoulders, mainly because I wanted a bit more length for prom. I had more or less that length for a while up until just after I turned 18 and I then got a full fringe. I have had a full fringe for about a year and a half now and just before I started uni last year I decided I wanted to grow my hair out a bit for a change. My hair grows quite fast and I usually get it cut every 8 weeks. I let it grow until it was mid length about 2  inches past my shoulders which was quite long for me. I used to have long hair when I was about 6 that went about 4-5 inches past my shoulders but I don't think I would ever go back to that as I just don't suit that any more. But yesterday when I went to the hairdressers I got about 3-4 inches cut off into a layered bob where the longest lengths just about hit my shoulders. I wanted a bit of a change and I knew that I always liked having shorter hair as its easier to wash and style.

Clothing Wish List: 1

If you read my blog last week you would know I posted my monthly beauty wish list (click here) and so I thought I could do a clothes wish list every month as well. I spend some time every week looking at clothing on line (which is a really bad habit but I can't resist looking at the clothing that is new in) and recently I have found some really nice things that I would love to buy for the upcoming season and today I thought I would share them...

1. Navy Check Boyfriend Blazer - £29.99 - from New Look - I love this so much! I went shopping a few weeks ago and tried this on and I now really want it. I will definitely be buying this when I get back to university as I think this will be perfect for when the weather is changing and I just need a light blazer/jacket.

2. Dogtooth Cigarette Trousers -£42  from Topshop - I saw these on a haul video by Lily Melrose and I really like them. They are probably not something I would usually wear but I like the print and I think they would look good with either a plain jumper or shirt.

3. Red Long Sleeve Layered Shirt - £17.99 - from New Look - I actually saw this when I was looking for the blazer on line and it was paired with it on the photo of the model with blazer on. I really like the colour and I would also wear it with the blazer above.

4. Kelly Brook Monochrome Polka Dot Trim Strapless Bra - £16.99 - from New Look - I am always looking at underwear on the New Look website. There is always some really nice bras especially the Kelly Brook range. I own one from the range already that I got in the sale which fits really well. I like this bra because of the pretty detail and the fact it can be worn as a strapless bra.

5. Cream Pug Print Pyjamas Set - £14.99 - from New Look - Not sure if I mentioned in another post but anyone that know me knows that I LOVE PUGS! When my friend said she had seen these in store I had to see them so I searched the website and now I really want them to add to my collection of pug related things.

Nails of the Week

This weeks nails are really simple but also look really pretty. I just used a french manicure polish as the base and then added a chunky glitter polish top coat to my thumbs and ring fingers. I painted the glitter so that there was more at the base of my nail and pieces just dotted around nearer the top for a gradient effect.

Products used:
No7 Silver glitter top coat - (I have a mini one that came in a set) Full size are around £6.00

My Favourite You Tubers

As I may have mentioned before I love watching you tube videos in my spare time. I mainly watch beauty and fashion videos but I also like watching vlogs. Today I thought I would share my top 5 favourite you tubers...

1. Shannon Harris from the channels Shaaanxo and Shaaanxovlogs -

She does both make up tutorials and fashion but is amazing at make up and I really love her videos! I also really like her New Zealand accent.

2. Gabriella Lindley from the channels Gabriella (Velvetghost) and PlanetGabb -

Gabriella is another beauty you tuber and I really love her variety of make up tutorials and haul videos. I also love her personality which comes across in all her videos and I like that I can relate to her because she is a similar age to me. I have also really been enjoying her moving out vlogs on her vlog channel.

3. Lindy Tsang from the channel BubzBeauty and Bubz vlogz -

Although I love watching both channels over the last few months I have really been enjoying her vlog channel as she is a really happy bubbly person and I love her watching her dogs, Chubbi and Domo too.

4. Kathleen Fuentes from the channels KathleenLights and DaysOfOurLights

Again this is another beauty channel. I love her make up tutorials but also like her beauty box unboxings and product reviews. She also recently made a vlog channel which I also enjoy watching.

5. Louise from Sprinkleofglitter and SprinkleofChatter

Louise is seems like such a lovely person and I love her variety of beauty, fashion, advice and entertaining videos. Her vlogs are also really good and her daughter, Darcy is so cute!

Superdrug Face Mask Review

Today's post is a review on Superdrug's own face mask. They have a range of 6 different ones but I picked up the Detoxifying Dead Sea Mud Mask. It says on the product that it 'unclogs pores and draws out dirt, oil and impurities, leaving the skin soft and revitalised'. I have never tried a mud mask before but I decided to get one as I kept getting spots and I had a lot or marks left from them after they had healed so I thought one might help. At £2.59 I thought why not try it as it was so cheap.

I really like the simple coloured packaging and all the different face masks from the same Superdrug range come in different colours so it easy to tell them apart.

I have actually had this face mask about 2 months now and I use it whenever I feel my skin needs it. I do think my skin seems a lot clearer and softer than it used to and the marks from healed spot have faded which I think is to do with this product. I also think my skin is less oily than before. Overall I definitely recommend this product to clear up the skin.

My Beauty Wish List: 2

I did my first wish list post about a month ago now (click here) and I thought that since I have an ever growing list of products I want to try I would do them about every month so here is another list of the items I want to try...

1. Revlon Colourstay Moisture Lip Stain £7.99 - Over the past month I have seen these been reviewed a lot on both blogs and You Tube videos and most reviews have been quite good. I like they are a gloss but after a few hours of wear leave a stain so you don't have to worry about reapplying. I mostly want to try the shade Parisian Passion as it looks like a really nice colour for autumn.

2. Revlon Colourstay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel - £6.99 - I saw a blog post a few weeks ago talking about these new nail varnishes. They are a gel based nail varnish that is supposed to last longer than a regular nail varnish. I absolutely hate it when nail varnish chips and I would love to try these to see how good they really are.

3. The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter £12 - I saw this on a beauty favourites video on You tube and it looked like a really nice product to remove make up. I find that sometimes make up wipes can make my skin dry and this product says it gently melts make up away which sounds a lot better for your skin and I would to love to try it.

4. Barry M Gelly Nails Autumn Collection £3.99 - Again I read about these on a blog post and I really love the colours! I have never tried the gelly nail varnishes from Barry M before and the new autumn collection has really made me want to buy one. I read on Instagram they are available from Superdrug but at the minute I can't find them on the website so I will have to have a look next time I'm in store.

5. The Wild Argan Oil Collection From The Body Shop £4 - £14 - I have seen and heard quite a bit about this new collection from The Body Shop. Argan oil is known for its benefits to hair and I really intrigued to see what its like in this bath and body collection. I really want to try the solid oil lip balm and the shower gel.

Hope you liked this post
Have you tried any of the products I have mentioned?

DIY: Bags

Recently I have been making bags for some family and friends. They are just canvas bags and really good to keep in your handbag in case you need a bag for something.

These bags were for my Nanna, Auntie and a friend's birthday present.

For these I used some wide patterned fabric ribbon for the handles and I also added beads to the appliquéd butterfly design.

This bag is one I made for myself as I bought the fabric from a market a few weeks ago and thought it would make a great bag, I love the print!

To make one of these bags you will need:

Calico or some kind of cotton fabric (can be plain or patterned)
Small pieces of fabric for the appliquéd design (if you want to do one or you could just do a plain one)
Bondaweb (if you don't know its an adhesive that is ironed to the back of appliquéd designs to keep them in place while sewing)
Thread
Sewing machine
Scissors
Chalk or a pen to mark fabric when measuring
Pinking Shears (to stop raw seams from fraying)

Measurements of bag

2 Bag pieces - can be any size depending how big you want your bag but I did mine 38cm x 38cm and then added 1cm seam allowance al the way around

2 handles - from 60 - 70 cm x 8cm depending how long you want it and make sure to add about 2cm seam allowance of each end (can either be fabric pieces or wide ribbon)

2 pieces of fabric that leave a neat finish on the inside where the handles are these should be the width of the bag x 8cm

Instructions

1. Cut all pieces out. If doing appliqué iron bondaweb on the back of design.

2. Iron design onto bag pieces and sew design using either straight or zig zag stitch.

3. Add any extras to the design such as beads.

4. Sew the two bag pieces together along three side with 1cm seam allowance and then neaten seam with pinking shears.

5. Turn the bag right way out and then start on the handles. If using fabric iron in 1cm from each side of the strip and then iron in half. After that sew down to create the handle.

6. To attach handles sandwich them between the top of the bag and the other small pieces of fabric. Sew around the top of the bag with all the layers.

7. Make sure to do it so that the handles are the right way when you have sewn around the handles stick out of the top and the small pieces of fabric fold inside to create a neat edge and strengthen the top.

8. Finally sew around the top of the bag again to keep the inside piece of fabric flat down inside the bag. You can do this with a decorative stitch if you wanted.

Hope you liked this kind of post and hope my instructions make sense if not please comment and I will try and explain if you don't understand what I have wrote

My Make Up Brush Collection

Today's post is just a short one about my make up brush collection. I don't really own that many and would love to try out some different ones but here is what I currently own...

All of the brushes I own so far are al Real Techniques and I have come to realise these are the best make up brushes you could own as I am sure many make up addicts would agree! I have tried others in the past and which were all rough and scratchy so now I own all Real Techniques. They are all really soft and fluffy and don't drop hairs like most of the other brushes I have tried before. They blend make up really well and give a flawless finish. The ones I have are:

The Blush Brush
The Expert Face Brush
(Above are sold separately)

Deluxe Crease Brush
Base Shadow Brush
Accent Brush
Pixel Point Eye liner Brush
Brow Brush
(Above are sold in a set that comes with case which is pictured above)

They can be bought from Boots or Amazon
with Amazon been a lot cheaper especially for the sets.

Which brand of brushes do you use? I would love to know

Mac Lipstick Review and Mac lipsticks I want next

About 4 months ago now my friend persuaded me to buy a Mac lipstick. She kept going on about how good they were and how she had an ever growing collection of them. So I decided to go on the Debenhams website and have a look. After looking at all the colours and searching swatches I decided to buy the shade called Brave which is a satin finish lipstick.
I would describe Brave as a muted medium pink probably my lips but better colour kind of shade. I was really happy with it as I wanted an everyday colour and this was perfect.
Although at first I though £15 for a lipstick was a bit expensive I now think that is definitely worth the money as it is quite long lasting and they come in so many different colours. I now really want to try the colours Kinda Sexy which is a pinky-rose nude colour, Vegas Volt which is a pretty coral colour and Rebel which is a deep plum berry colour. One of these will definitely be my next treat!

(L-R Kinda Sexy, Vegas Volt, Rebel)
(Above photo is not mine but the rest are)
Mac lipsticks can be bought at Debenhams or the Mac website.
